Telephone Counseling

Busy schedules, time & travel concerns, nervousness about going out in public, privacy considerations, and flexible availability are some of the reasons for using telephone counseling services.  Many clients use the internet to identify a suitable therapist only to discover the counselor’s office is too far away.

Telephone counseling opens up a larger pool of therapists with different specialties for clients who live in rural areas, who wish to protect their privacy, or for couples who are in long distance relationships.  Sometimes individuals and couples simply want to open up to another person and experiment with the idea of therapy before going in person. Counseling can be scheduled in a way that is tailored to the clients needs.

Telephone Counseling Has Many Benefits:
  1. Phone counseling is fast!  Many therapist offices have a two-week wait or longer.  When you are in pain, do you want to wait that long?
  2. Therapy by telephone is convenient to your schedule.  Scheduling a 45-minute appointment takes really more like 3 hours, once you factor in travel time and/or make childcare arrangements.
  3. Phone therapy is ultra-private.  Many individuals won't go to a Psychotherapy office because they value privacy too much and are concerned about someone seeing them. With telephone counseling there is no reason to suffer alone.
  4. Phone counseling is flexible -- it happens wherever you're at (i.e. in the comfort of your home, office or while traveling in your car).
  5. Phone counseling saves you money -- no childcare fees and no need to lose money or precious vacation time by leaving work.

Telephone counseling is also a good solution if you have a brief, one-time question, need a consultation about a family member, or would like to determine if the therapist is a good fit for your issues. It can be a good way to discover answers in a private, convenient, and flexible format.

Important Considerations about Choosing Between In-Person and Telephone Counseling:

Although telephone counseling is effective, convenient, and helpful, face-to-face counseling adds a crucial dimension which should not be ignored. Telephone counseling clients are strongly encouraged to set up at least one initial in-person session during the first few appointments.  Face-to-face counseling provides added information, a strong rapport, and deeper trust between client and counselor.  All telephone clients are urged to consider how face-to-face counseling might enhance their development and treatment overall.

You will talk with your therapist for the amount of time you decide upon in advance.  You will pay your fee by mail prior to your appointment date or by accessing a paypal account through this website.  You will be required to fill out a "New Client Data Form" as well as an "Informed Consent" form to be included as a part of your counseling file.
